Microsoft is preparing to unveil a major update to its Copilot AI tools during an upcoming event titled “Microsoft 365 Copilot: Wave 2,” scheduled for September 16. Hosted by CEO Satya Nadella and Jared Spataro, Vice President of AI at Work, the event will showcase the next wave of Copilot innovations, with a strong emphasis on business applications.
In a strategic move, Microsoft will rebrand its AI toolset as “Microsoft 365 Copilot,” signaling a deeper integration with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This rebranding is intended to position Copilot as a vital component of any Microsoft 365 subscription, especially for businesses. Alongside the new name, the event is expected to introduce several new features for the $30-per-user-per-month Copilot subscription. This premium tier offers access to Copilot across Microsoft 365 apps and Teams, with added benefits such as priority model access and enhanced data protection. Despite these features, some businesses have been hesitant to adopt the tool due to its high cost. While there’s no word on a price reduction, Microsoft may aim to enhance the value proposition by adding even more features.
The event will likely focus on the business-oriented Copilot subscription, but there may also be updates for the consumer-focused Copilot Pro plan. Currently, Copilot Pro shares many features with the $30 tier but lacks access to Teams and lost its Copilot GPT Builder feature in June.
Copilot is designed to simplify tasks like email writing, converting Word documents to PowerPoint presentations, and summarizing meetings. For these tools to justify their subscription cost, they must be efficient and reliable, delivering quick and accurate results.
The Microsoft 365 Copilot event will begin at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET on September 16. Stay tuned for detailed coverage of the key highlights as they are announced.
